The 4th graders have been reading nonfiction texts and completing a mini booklet with details about text structure, vocabulary words and information they have learned while reading. One of the main points of the lesson was to encourage the students to chunk their reading - set a goal of a specific amount of pages and then reflect on those pages before continuing on.
Also during April the students met with their Battle teams to discuss the books they are reading and determine which books need to be read by each of the team members.
In fifth grade, the students have been rotating throughout stations learning about water. They read articles and answered questions about drought and how Americans waste water, and in Google Classroom watched videos about hydropower and wind power and then posted comments related to a question as well as read an online article and posted comments on a classroom discussion.
The students also had time to discuss their Battle books and determine which books need to be read by each of the team members.
The Battle begins the first week of May.
